SANDPOINT — The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce would like to extend congratulations to Blue Sky Broadcasting as the Chamber’s Business of the Month.
The chamber recognizes them for their commitment to providing the community with a wide assortment of local radio options and supporting non-profits in the area.
Kim & Helen Benefield bought Sandpoint’s original radio station in 1980 and started KPND 95.3 FM. Blue Sky Broadcasting has since expanded to seven stations: KSPT, KBFI, KPND, KTPO, KIBR, KICR and KTPO. Unlike most radio stations, Blue Sky Broadcasting is privately owned and operated, with live DJs, up-to-the-minute news and weather, live local talk shows, and broadcasts of SHS and Bonners Ferry sports.
General manager Dylan Benefield oversees a 35-person staff which has little turnover. In fact, most of their salespeople have been with the company for over 20 years.
Blue Sky Broadcasting supports numerous local fundraisers and organizations by offering free community calendar announcements for non-profits and matching programs. They also partner up with local organizations including Angels Over Sandpoint, 24 Hours For Hank, Sandpoint Senior Center and Kinderhaven with in-kind sponsorships to help them succeed.
