For more than a century, First Christian Church has been an active ministry presence in the Sandpoint community. Recently, God has provided the church with a new lead pastor, Dr. Steve Brown.

At this time, the pastors, elders, staff, and membership enthusiastically embrace a new name for the church as we move forward in a fresh way to meet our commitment for making strong disciples of Jesus.

“We are making substantial changes within the church,” Pastor Steve explained the reason for the name change. “We have a new vision to make disciples who make disciples one person at a time in a relational environment. We are truly now a nondenominational church, dedicated to the teaching of God’s word straight from the Bible. We want to proclaim the great new work God is doing here and of our love for all in the community.”

Additionally, Brown said that throughout the Bible, we see transformation happen in people’s lives when they journey to the top of the mountain or summit.

“It’s only from the summit of Mt. Nebo that Moses could finally see the Promised Land,” he said. “It was at the summit that Peter, James, and John got to see the glory of the Messiah at Jesus’ transfiguration. Jesus took His disciples to the summit as He taught them the Sermon on the Mount. Also, God changed the names of Abraham, Sarah, Peter, Paul, and many others when He called them out for a new work. All throughout Scripture, people are changed when they dare to go up the mountain and meet with God.”

Now God has given the congregation a new name: North Summit Church.
