I worked for three years as the director of technology while Cary Kelly was the chairman of the Bonner County Commissioners. As my supervisor, I was in daily contact with him. He is a seasoned executive with years of local government experience in both the Marine Division in the Sheriff’s Office and as a Commissioner. He brings to his duties diplomacy, civility, logic, intelligence, experience with managing large groups of people and complex budgets; skills that are tempered by the interests of his constituents.

He also listens carefully to his professional advisors and Directors. As a result, there were many complex accomplishments during his Chairmanship that significantly advanced the counties capabilities. EMS expanded professionally, 911 made key advancements, the county’s IT infrastructure was completely revamped, a major fiber project was designed and funded in collaboration with the City, the financial software system was completely upgraded to mention a few. There were many other projects throughout the county, all oriented toward making government more responsive, efficient and effective.

Cary is an executive with decisive leadership skills who consistently interprets his strategy in terms of what is the correct, responsible and honorable solution to the people’s government. He is consistently diplomatic and thoughtful in managing high-tension political issues and applies the correct measure of tactical and strategic vision to governance. There is no doubt that he would provide strong, measured and collaborative leadership coupled with an ethos of financial responsibility and strict transparency as a school district trustee.
