Miners take second at 1A/2A golf district tournament

The Wallace boys had a solid showing at the 1A/2A District I tournament at The Links in Post Falls- taking second place.
The Miners finished just 11 strokes out of first place, but still qualified for next week’s state tournament due to the rule that leagues with four or more teams in them get to take their top two schools.
The boys fielded five complete teams for the event, while the girls only had three complete teams, so only one full team will be attending the state competition from the girls side.
Miners Erik Brackebusch and Josh Allen both shot scores of 90 and tied with a St. Maries golfer for third place at the event.
The Wallace girls didn’t have a complete team, but senior Maryssa Hogamier shot a solid 106 and was able finish in the top five to qualify as an individual for the competition.
Miner assistant coach Bob Ranells was very pleased with the effort and improvement he and head coach, Marcia Howard, saw from their team.
“Coach Howard and I are very happy for Maryssa playing well. She has worked hard this year to strengthen her game,” Ranells said. “Our boys made a good run at the St. Maries team and came up just short at the end, but the boys are all young and happy for a chance to go to state so we can get better for next year.”
The Miners will be golfing in the state tournament next Monday at Jefferson Hills Golf Course in Rigby.
