QUINCY — Sprinter Mya Spencer and hurdler McCall DeChenne set the tone for the day for the Ephrata, but the CWAC District 5-6 track and field meet belonged to the Ellensburg girls and the Selah boys Friday afternoon at Jaycee Stadium.
Spencer won the 400-meter dash (60.52 seconds) and finished second in the 200 (26.59). DeChenne defeated a quality field in the 100-meter hurdles (15.46) and finished third in the 300 hurdles (46.69). The two Tiger sophomores combined with Nikola Brzezny and Hailey Miller to best a quick 4x200-meter relay field in 1:48.75.
Katelyn Ostrowski gave the Tigers a boost in the field events, winning the javelin with a throw of 103 feet and placing fifth in the triple jump (32-5 ¾).
Quincy had stellar performances by Mashayla Schaapman, who won the shot put with a mark of 36-feet-6, and Bryn Heikes, who was second in the 800 meters (2:26.38).
In the boys' meet, Ephrata senior Ethan Green moved on with a big win in the 3200 (9:51.19) in one last CWAC District 5-6 showdown with Ellensburg senior Nate Jensvold, who was second (9:53.98).
Green, who was top four at the 2A state cross country meet last fall and third in the 3200 at the state meet in 2016, stayed the course with his race strategy and pulled away to beat a quality field on Saturday at Jaycee Stadium.
Tiger sprinter Anthony Evans had a solid day, finishing second in the 400 (52.63) and third in the 200 (23.50). Teammate Josh Benthem cleared 5-8 to finish second in the high jump on jumps.
The Selah boys won the District 5-6 meet (176.33) by 40 points as did the Ellensburg girls (177).
The top six individuals move on to the District 5-6-7 regional qualifier on Friday where the top four will punch their ticket to the 2A State Track and Field Championships at Mount Tahoma Stadium May 25-27.
