Polson, Whitefish teams to beat at divisional tennis
The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 8 years, 7 months AGO
Columbia Falls, Polson, Stevensville and Whitefish will battled for team titles and state qualifiers today and Wednesday at the Northwestern A Divisional tennis tournament.
Weather permitting, Ronan will host the boys competition with Polson entertaining girls play.
The top four singles and double teams, boys and girls, advance to state play in Kalispell at the Flathead Valley Community College courts on May 25.
The Whitefish boys and Polson girls are defending divisional champions. Polson has won 10 straight while it was the first for Whitefish’s boys since 2008.
Those two schools also dominate the seeding for this year’s event.
Polson has the top seeded singles players — Colin Kenney and Cassie Carlyle — along with the top girls doubles team — Olivia Hewston and Kyler Lundeen.
Whitefish has the second and fourth seeds in boys and girls singles and the top boys doubles team — Brendan Buls and Thomas Carloss. Buls played doubles last year while Carloss was in singles.
Polson’s Cadis Chowning and Matt Sitter, defending divisional doubles champions, are seeded No. 2.
Columbia Falls has one seeded player — Molly Schmit at No. 3 in girls singles — along with Stevensville — David Haake and Tucker Weber at No. 3 boys doubles.
Whitefish’s girls have dominated divisional play en route to a 15-2 dual season. The losses were to Havre and Hardin.
Polson and Whitefish had a dual at FVCC on May 11 with the Whitefish girls and Polson boys winning by 5-2 scores. Those were the same results, and scores, of an earlier meeting in Polson.
Tennis play begins today at 10 a.m. at both locations and 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
