May 16, 1967 — LAB RATES EXCELLENT

Bonner Medical Laboratory at Bonner General Hospital has received an excellent quality report on its operations. Hospital manager Jim Breinich released a quality control report by Pathology Associates, Spokane that rated the lab on its clinical operation. The report states, “From data submitted on internal and external portions of the quality control program, it is safe to say all your chemistry procedures are well under control. You are highly complimented for your excellent participation and for the results reported.”

William B. Crouse is lab technician at Bonner General. The quality control program gives assurance to physicians and patients that the lab maintains standards equal to the best of major medical labs in the larger cities.

NO PUTTING GREEN AT BEACH

Parks Superintendent Bob Linsday reported to the city council that there is a lot of interest in horseshoes courts at the beach and said he could construct two of them near the tennis courts for about $25. The council approved the work.

Linsday said there are suggestions for building a putting practice green at the beach, but the council felt that because of the specialized nature of a putting green it would not be practical.

May 16, 1917 — AS IT HAPPENED

Every once and awhile one hears of some one run down by a bicycle, largely due to the fact that cyclists use sidewalks in preference to streets, which could be remedied by the proper officials.

With the advent of spring weather the first real shower and thunderstorm was recorded in this vicinity Friday. Those fortunate enough to have their garden planted heralded it with delight, while for others it retarded planting for 48 hours.

MOVES SECOND STREET STORE

The Kerr & Nead firm moved their 2nd street store to the old Sandpoint Mercantile co. building (1st & Main), which will be renovated, with many improvements planned. A full width balcony will be built, with a rendezvous for patrons and city visitors, and a writing room in connection.

POSTMASTER GETS RAISE

Postmaster Don C.D. Moore received official notification that beginning July 1, his salary will be $2500 instead of $2400. For several years, the salary has fluctuated between these two figures, depending upon whether the business rose above or fell below the $16,000 mark. The postmaster at Coeur d’Alene receives $2500.

CHAUTAUQUA DATES SET

The dates of Sandpoint’s 1917 Chautauqua have been set for August 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, with a program that includes several numbers never before seen in the west.
