Camp Invention returns to middle school
Whitefish Pilot | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 8 years, 1 month AGO
Whitefish’s young innovators will get to thrive at Camp Invention, a nationally recognized summer camp that promotes creativity and invention, on June 12-16.
Camp Invention focuses on hands-on problem solving, collaboration, and the use of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) during a fun week of events and learning.
This year’s camp, held at Whitefish Middle School, will feature an all new curriculum and new hands-on learning experiences. Some of the modules this year include the duct tape billionaire, where campers design duct tape products they can market and sell to mock investors; “Have a Blast,” where kids build high-tech bubble blasters and compete in friendly air battles, using physics to give them an advantage; “Mission Space Makers,” in which teams hatch eggs, sprout living plants and grow crystal trees while on a mission to locate and prepare a new planet for human habitation; and “Operation Keep Out,” where campers reverse engineer old machines and devices and use the parts to create the ultimate spy gadget alarm box.
This is the second year Whitefish Middle School has hosted the camp.
Camp Invention is a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing inventors and invention, promoting creativity, and advancing the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.
All local Camp Invention programs are facilitated and taught by certified educators who reside and teach in the community. Camp Invention serves more than 130,000 students every year and partners with more than 1,400 schools and districts across the nation.
Parents can locate and sign up for camps at campinvention.org, or call the customer relations department at 800-968-4332.
