Lakers AA in title game of Canadian Days Tourney Tournament

A pair of Saturday American Legion baseball victories in the Canadian Days Tournament advances the host Kalispell Lakers AA to today’s championship game.

Kalispell rode the solid pitching of Sam Elliott and a 3 for 3 batting effort by Randy Stultz for a 5-4 victory over the Calgary Redbirds AA at Griffin Field.

It was the final game on the second day of play.

Elliott checked Calgary on four hits in going the distance. He fanned eight and walked two.

Stultz doubled twice and drove in two runs. He scored twice. Patrick O’Connell also had two hits for the Lakers.

The Lakers and Redbirds will play for the AA championship today at 4 p.m. at Griffin Field.

Earlier Saturday, Kalispell whipped the Mission Valley Mariners 16-3.

O’Connell had a monster game, pitching five innings to get the win and driving in five runs. He was 2 for 3 at the plate, both hits triples.

Dawson Smith went 2 for 2 and drove in two runs as did Brady Peiffer. Haydn Schlepp and Johan also had two RBIs each.

The Lakers put the game away with a nine-run third inning.

In a late game Friday night, Kalispell lost to the Spokane Northstars 7-6. The Lakers were up 6-1 going into the seventh.
