Volunteers are needed to help maintain the Living Wetlands Interpretive Nature Tail just off Wisconsin Avenue.

The Whitefish Lake Institute is hosting its annual trail work day on Saturday, June 3 in conjunction with National Trails Day. Volunteers are needed for trimming vegetation, weeding, oiling wood surfaces, and removing debris.

The work day is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and lunch will be provided. RSVP by noon on Wednesday, May 31 to receive lunch.

Opened by WLI in 2013, the trail is made available to the public to share the history, science, and beauty of the area, and to provide a glimpse into the lives of the wildlife with which we share this beautiful habitat.

Volunteers should wear comfortable, moisture wicking layers that can get dirty or torn, and wear sturdy work books or rain boots. Be prepared for cold and hot weather as it can change dramatically from morning to afternoon, and bring raingear and work gloves. Suggested items to bring include a water bottle, sunscreen, mosquito repellent and a change of shoes and socks.

Meet at the trailhead parking area on Viking Creek Road on the east side of Wisconsin Avenue, just across the road and slightly south from The Lodge at Whitefish Lake. For more information, call 862-4327.
