Naches Valley — The Royal Knights Girls Track and Field team turned in an outstanding performance and were crowned champion at the 1A SCAC District meet at Naches Valley High School over the weekend. The team finished with 104 points. Cle Elum was a close second with 95.

“The girls have had a spectacular season this year going undefeated in league competition, winning the SCAC East league title, advancing 21 girls to the district meet and winning the District 5 1A Title as well,” coach Scott Sandberg said. “The District competition was fierce, but seven of the girls were able to percevere and will be advancing to the state meet.”

Pacing Royal in the track events was Maggie Delay who took first in the 100 Meter hurdles and set a school record along the way with a time of 15.41 seconds. Noelia Juarez finished first (59.13) and set a school record in the 400 Meters. She placed second (27.11) in the 200 Meters. In the 1600 Meters it was Kay Lester (5:47.43) crossing the finish line fourth and setting a school record in the process. And the 4x400 relay team of Gracelynn Miller, Abigail Delay, Noelia Juarez and Kay Lester raced to a first place finish with a time of 4.11.33 to eclipse last year’s school record set by the same group of girls.

Gina Grant led the way in the field competition placing first with a new school record (5-02) in the high jump event. Jennifer Ledezma took second in the shot put with a school breaking record of 35-02 feet. She also placed fourth in the discus event with a toss of 95-03.50 feet. Maggie Delay placed third in the triple jump (34-07.05) and third in the pole vault (10-00).

Boys

Arturo Villa (41.65) set a PR and placed first in the 300 Meter hurdles. Cole Christensen took second in the pole vault and set a school record clearing 11-06 feet. Rams Gonzalez took third in the javelin event with a throw of 151-07 feet.

“The boys track team had a great season and was able to advance 13 athletes to the district meet and will be advancing three athletes to the state meet,” Sandberg said. “Even though not all our athletes are advancing to the state meet, as a coaching staff, we are ecstatic with the results of this season of both the athletes and the teams and we look forward to seeing what they can accomplish not only at the state meet, but in the years to come.”

State competition will be held at Eastern Washington University in Cheney May 25-27.
