COEUR d'ALENE — Amanda Wren will never forget the young boy who was so passionate about rescuing a wounded duck at Riverstone Park on Sunday, Oct. 22.

The boy, estimated to be between 10 and 12 years old with blond hair and glasses and riding his bike, carefully cradled the duck and brought it to the Coeur d'Alene woman and her family to call animal control because he was running late for church.

"The boy stayed for as long as he could to make sure the duck would be taken care of but he had to go back to meet his mother for church," Wren told The Press.

Wren said she wishes she would have gotten the mother of the boy's number because she'd like to honor the lad for saving the duck's life.

Wren said a veterinarian rehabilitated the duck and he'll be released back into his natural habitat soon.

"The duck could barely lift its head and walk and that little boy was so concerned about it," Wren said. "I bet he went home to tell his family that he found a duck and gave it to us."

Wren said that earlier in the day, two other boys had been chasing the duck.

"My husband had asked them to leave it alone," she said, adding that her family was at the park for family photos.

Wren said it's unclear how the duck was wounded.

After the boy brought the duck to the Wren family, a bed was made out of jackets for the feathered friend.

Wren would like the family of the duck rescuer to contact her at 208-704-1849 so the boy can be honored for his good deed.

"We want him to know that if he hadn't done what he did, the duck wouldn't have survived," Wren said.
