The third program in an educational series focusing on climate change will look at what a warming world means for hunting, fishing and winter recreation during a multi-media event on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center.
The series is sponsored by Climate Smart Glacier Country. The program is titled “Fire on the Mountain” and features Hilary Hutcheson, Ryan Busse and Todd Tanner. The evening is co-sponsored by Protect our Winters, Conservation Hawks, and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers.
“As the Flathead makes the annual transition from fishing to hunting season to ski season, this is a good time to consider how we can maintain these Montana traditions long into the future,” said Climate Smart Chairman Steve Thompson. “Climate change has implications for each of these outdoor pastimes, and we have three inspirational speakers who are ready to take it on.”
Hilary Hutcheson, with Protect our Winters, will share personal stories and short film screening of “Convergence,” which features Hutcheson and her daughters. Hutcheson produces Trout TV and has a flyfishing shop in Columbia Falls.
Todd Tanner, with Conservation Hawks, will speak about his experience and share a short film screening of “Cold Water.” Tanner lives in Bigfork and is founder and president of Conservation Hawks, an alliance of hunters and anglers educating sportsmen about climate change and climate solutions.
Ryan Busse, of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, will speak and give a photo tour. Busse lives in Kalispell and is the chairman of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers and Vice President of Kimber America.
A panel discussion with the audience will follow.
