BONNERS FERRY — Second Chance Animal Adoption Thrift Store held its 6th annual Halloween fundraiser over the weekend. They had a haunted house complete with zombies and children’s shows held in The Howl Theater.

In the theater, the cast sang songs, told stories, and performed skits for the audiences. The haunted house featured dark decor and cast members who had dressed up and prepared to jump-scare passersby.

“We aimed to please everyone, and try to make the theater for the kids. Not so scary, more laughter, and something that appealed to all ages, so that it wasn’t boring for the adults,” said Carla Clark, an SCAA employee who offered her time to help. With storylines based locally and with lots of interaction, the audience, of all ages, was captivated.

Out in the yard, there were game booths where attendees could try to accomplish the goals and win candy prizes, which were donated by private parties.

All of the cast and booth attendants were volunteers. The board members and employees that volunteered, invited their friends and families to help over the weekend and bring smiles not only to the children and adult attendees, but to the animals that the donations helped along the way.

Chic ‘n Chop restaurant donated a meal one evening to feed all the volunteers, as well as other private parties that donated food to supplement the volunteers for their time and effort that was put into the event. With all of the donations, the pets at the shelter will gain the much needed supplies for their care.

Following their motto, “helping to build a community of compassion and kindness toward all animals,” SCAA relies on these donations and volunteers to care for the animals in the shelter. This fundraiser assists the goals for the company in that they are a no-kill, high foster and adoption shelter for the animals that have no home in Boundary County.
