With Tanner Gueller out for the second half, Coeur d’Alene High product Gunnar Amos entered the game at quarterback for Idaho State, finishing with 75 total yards for the Bengals in a 56-17 loss to UC Davis on Saturday at Holt Arena in Pocatello.

UC Davis (5-4, 3-3 Big Sky) led the entire game and built a 21-0 after the first quarter before the Bengals were able to get on the scoreboard.

Idaho State (4-6, 2-5) tallied 401 yards of total offense while UC Davis finished with 488. The Bengals had 173 yards rushing led by James Madison’s 81 yards on 17 carries. Ty Flanagan rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Gueller passed for 183 yards in the first half and was 13 for 21. Amos, a sophomore who transferred from Idaho this summer, threw for 54 yards on 8 of 18 attempts with two interceptions, and ran for 21 yards on six carries.

Michael Dean and Mitch Gueller both had six receptions for 55 and 50 yards, respectively.

Jake Maier threw for 358 yards and three touchdowns on 29-of-40 passing and Justin Williams ran for 92 yards and two scores for UC Davis.

Boise State 41, Nevada 14: At Boise, Brett Rypien threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns and Alexander Mattison added a pair of scoring runs to lead Boise State over Nevada. Boise State (7-2, 5-0 Mountain West Conference) won its fifth straight game and also recorded its fifth consecutive victory over conference rivals.

After falling behind 7-0 and then again at 14-10 early in the second quarter, Boise State turned to Rypien to spark the Broncos’ offense. The result was more than enough firepower to extinguish any hopes Nevada had of an upset.

Rypien delivered a 44-yard pass less than a minute after Nevada (1-8, 1-4) had retaken the lead, hitting Cedrick Wilson at the goal line before he tumbled into the end zone.

Leading 17-14, Boise State scored on its next two drives — one on a 1-yard run by Ryan Wolpin and the other on another 25-yard pass from Rypien to Jake Roh — as the Broncos built a 31-14 halftime lead.

Montana 17, Northern Arizona 15: At Missoula, Lake City High product Jerry Louie-McGee had a 48-yard punt return for a touchdown to help Montana (6-3, 4-2 Big Sky) beat Northern Arizona to snap the Lumberjacks’ (6-3, 5-1) six-game win streak.

Simis, a fifth-year senior who played quarterback at Capital High in Boise, moved from quarterback to receiver after the 2015 season but came into the week as the backup quarterback. He entered the game after the first drive and was 6-of-15 passing for 44 yards with one interception.

With less than a minute left, Northern Arizona’s Stone Smartt scampered around the edge, dove and touched the pylon for a 2-yard touchdown that made it 17-15 with 50 seconds left. On the ensuing 2-point conversion attempt, he rolled right and had a wide open receiver in the back of the end zone, but threw behind his target.

Whitworth 48, Lewis & Clark 7: At Portland, Post Falls High product Zach Hillman had his best game for the Whitworth defense, finishing with 12 tackles, including 10 solo stops, and a 9-yard sack as the Pirates (7-2, 4-2 Northwest) beat Lewis & Clark (2-6, 1-5). Whitworth quarterback Ian Kolste had 305 yards passing and tailback Mason Elms ran for 96 yards and a touchdown as the team reached 10,000 yards of total offense on the season.

Carroll 24, Montana-Western 15: At Helena, Mont., Major Ali ran for 178 yards and a touchdown for the Saints (4-6, 4-5 Frontier) in a win over the Bulldogs (4-5, 4-5).

College of Idaho 64, Montana Tech 35: At Caldwell, Lakeland High product Troy Carr had six tackles for the Coyotes (5-5, 5-4 Frontier) in a win over the Orediggers (6-3, 6-3) at Simplot Stadium. Sandpoint High product Davan Norris had 357 yards passing for four touchdowns in the loss.
