First District Judge Lansing Haynes sentenced Jonathan D. Renfro to death Monday for the 2015 murder of Coeur d’Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore.

A 12-member jury recommended the death penalty for Renfro on Saturday, several weeks after he was convicted of first-degree murder.

Haynes imposed an additional sentence of life in prison without parole, plus 19 years for Renfro’s other charges stemming from the night Moore was killed, including removal of a firearm from a law enforcement officer, eluding, concealment of evidence and grand theft.

The case will now move into the appeals process which defense attorneys are already working on. The defense has applied for a state appellate court public defender for Renfro.
