Man arrested after crashing into Dalton Gardens home

A Post Falls man was arrested Monday after leading a sheriff’s deputy on a vehicle pursuit and crashing into an occupied Dalton Gardens home.
Cesar Arana, 30, is facing charges of felony eluding, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash, DUI and possession of marijuana.
A Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the vehicle Arana was driving around 8:25 p.m. near Government Way and Orchard Avenue in Hayden because the car was traveling with no headlights.
The driver of the vehicle would not yield and led the deputy on a short pursuit with speeds reaching nearly 80 mph. The driver eventually lost control and crashed into an occupied residence in the 7000 block of Rude Street in Dalton Gardens, said a news release. After crashing into the home, the driver then fled the scene on foot.
With assistance from the Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 unit, Arana was tracked and found hiding under a motor home near the crash scene, the Sheriff’s Office reported. He was taken into custody and transported to Kootenai Health where he was checked for possible injuries due to the crah and released.
Arana was wanted in Kootenai County on charges stemming from a previous DUI. Arana was previously arrested 19 times in Kootenai County since 2003 for a variety of previous charges including, eluding a police officer, DUI, obstructing law enforcement, disturbing the peace and drug charges.
The residence struck by the vehicle suffered significant damage, but none of occupants were injured in the collision. The Idaho State Police are assisting with the crash investigation.
