Local pizza shop Simple Simons is rallying Plains residents to support the family of Kenny Marjerrison.

The small shop on Thursday donated $2 from each pizza order toward a fund in memory of the Plains High School coach, who died last week in a car crash.

Simple Simons store manager Serena Wachsmuth said the support from the community was overwhelming.

“If people aren’t buying pizza, they are donating. If they are buying, they’re donating extra. People are beyond generous,” she said.

The local shop sold 67 pizza’s, and with some beverages at the bar adding to the total along with the other donations, the shop was able to raise a substantial amount for the Marjerrisons. The shop also matched what was raised by patrons.

Along with Simple Simons, some Hot Springs teachers have begun to raise funds for the Savage Horsemen wrestling team, just as Marjerrison used to fund raise for the team he coached. This time the organizers are looking to keep the spirit of the former head coach alive for generations to come.

Wrist bands in the name of Kenny Marjerrison are available for $5, which will go directly toward wrestling team expenses.
