Libby Elementary School recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week, during which parents were asked to sign pledges of support “as part of the goal to help kids grow up safe, healthy and drug free,” a news release states.

“The Red Ribbon parent pledge goals are to talk to their kids about the dangers of drug use and abuse, setting clear rules about not using drugs, working together with the parents of their children’s friends to set common boundaries and monitor behavior so that our rules are respected and reinforced, and setting a good example for their child by not using illegal drugs or medicine,” continues the news release.

About 28 percent of parents signed the pledge, and Libby Elementary School Assistant Principal Kaide Dodson pledged to strive for 50 percent next year.

According to the news release, Unite For Youth sponsored the parent partnership and purchased 10 gift cards for movie theater passes, treats at CC’s or Burger Express, or pizza night at Pizza Hut.

Winners of the gift cards were Shannon Strand, Danielle Hughes, Angela Marshall, Bernie Place, Sadi Roby, Mandi Rose, Tracy Bache, Jessica O’Brecht, Amber Skranak and Felisha James.
