Troy City Council member Dallas Carr was elected Tuesday to a four-year term as Mayor of Troy.

He received 173 votes to Charles Ekstedt Jr.’s 108 and Chris Penner’s 7.

“I would like to thank everyone for giving me the chance to be Mayor of Troy,” Carr said via email. “In my eyes it is a tremendous honor that I will not take lightly. I also have listened to what our citizens have concerns about, and will do my best to address these concerns as soon and as best as possible. (Outgoing) Mayor (Darren) Coldwell did a great job with his agenda and while in office. Now it’s time for myself to step up and do what’s right for our town.”

“Although I may not have won the election, I still plan on continuing to be active in our community,” wrote Ekstedt, Jr., who congratulated Carr on his win.

Ekstedt, Jr. said that he “would like to be more involved with the City Council and help them to make Troy a better place to live, work and play,” and plans to remain active in community service including helping with the Helping Hands for Christmas and Adopt a Highway programs.

“We will see everyone again in four years,” he wrote.

Penner did not respond by deadline to a request for comment.

One other candidate for city office — Shawna Kelsey for City Council — was elected by acclamation after no one ran in opposition.
