'Souport' the homeless Nov. 16
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 7 years, 2 months AGO
November is Homelessness Awareness Month and it’s time again to sample soups while helping less fortunate community members stay warm on cold nights.
St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho is hosting the eighth annual Souport the End of Homelessness lunch Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.
From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 45 different soups will be available for sampling, all offered by various North Idaho businesses, organizations and individuals.
With each soup chef making four gallons of soup, more than 180 gallons will be served during the event.
Tickets are $12 to try any or all the soups and vote for a favorite.
Local firefighters and peace officers will be celebrity servers this year, helping clear tables and sell wooden nickels to be used for voting.
The proceeds from this event will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho warming centers. When the temperature dips to 28 degrees, the centers are open for those who need protection from the cold. Tickets for the eighth annual Souport the End of Homelessness lunch can be purchased at any of the St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores or at the Help Center, 201 E. Harrison Ave., Coeur d’Alene.
Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
During the cold months, donations of food, socks, warm clothing, blankets and sleeping bags are always needed by people served by St. Vincent de Paul. For more information, or to make a donation call or contact Barb at 208-416-4716 or Barbara@stvincentdepaulcda.org
