STATE LINE — A fire that destroyed a 32-foot travel trailer and damaged a semi trailer next to it on Stateline Road on Saturday night is being investigated as an arson, emergency response officials say.

"(Investigators) who responded said it appeared to be suspicious," said Steven Isaacson, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue's EMS Division chief.

An investigation by KCFR and the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office continues and a cause hasn't been determined.

A neighbor reported the fire at 634 N. Stateline Road just before 8 p.m.

"When our engine responded from Seltice Way the trailer was nearly fully involved," Isaacson said.

There were no injuries, according to reports from the investigating agencies.

The travel trailer was between two 40-foot semi trailers. One of the semi trailers was damaged.

"Crews limited the exposure to one side (of the travel trailer)," Isaacson said.

Isaacson said he didn't immediately know who owns the travel trailer.

The neighbor who reported the fire heard explosions during the fire, according to a KCSO document.

The trailers were inside a fenced area.

Since the closest hydrant to the fire was on the other side of the railroad tracks, Isaacson said crews needed to unitize a shuttle system involving multiple trucks that were rotated in until a 2,500-gallon tanker from Hauser Fire arrived.

Spokane Valley Fire also assisted in the incident.

Isaacson said updated mutual- aid policies with Spokane Valley were recently implemented since KCFR's station on West Seltice Way became manned full time.

"They were on our frequency talking to our incident commander, which is huge," he said. "We've been working together at another level because of the (staffing of the) fire station."
