Newhouse holding senior symposium in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE — Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Yakima, will be holding a senior symposium in Moses Lake this week.

The symposium is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday at the Moses Lake Senior Center, 608 E. Third Ave. The event is designed to help seniors traverse the systems and benefits that are available to them. Featured during the symposium will be three panels of experts and an opportunity for seniors to have their questions answered.

The three panels and confirmed participants include:

Benefits Panel, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Information will be presented about Social Security, Medicare and other healthcare benefits, retirement and long-term care. Participants include Sylvia Romero, who is employed by the Social Security Administration, Tomas Aquino, who is employed by the U.S. Department of Labor Employee Benefits Security Administration, Ken Sterner, who is employed by Aging and Adult Care, and Todd Dixon, who is employed by the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner.

Fraud and Identification Prevention Panel, 12 p.m - 1 p.m.: Information will be presented on filing taxes and protecting against identity theft. Participants include Moses Lake Police Department Chief Kevin Fuhr and Ben George, who is employed by the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Veterans Issues Panel, 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.: Information will be presented on services that are available to veterans in the area, obtaining benefits via the Department of Veterans Affairs and receiving care at VA facilities. Panelists include Rob Hard, who is employed by the VA’s Veterans Benefits Administration, Thomas Yokes, who is employed by the VA’s National Cemeteries Administration, and TJ Gaia, who is employed at a VA medical facility in Spokane.
