“On Veterans Day, we pause to remember and honor the enduring sacrifice of our men and women in uniform and their families, the bravery they showed in service to our nation and the unwavering responsibility we have to them when they return from war,” said U.S. Sen. Jon Tester in a message last Friday.

“Those who came before us courageously defended our freedoms and helped make America the nation it is today.”

This is a sentiment not lost on the students and staff at St. Regis School, who hosted their annual Veterans Day breakfast last Thursday morning before classes. Dawn Palmer, Buffy Cheesman and Jodie Blaylock provided a delicious breakfast in the cafeteria along with decorated tables.

Seventeen veterans along with families and friends showed up to celebrate and a wall was decorated to honor local veterans, many of whom graduated from St. Regis. Including Ron Forrest, a former SeaBee in the Navy who is related to Chet Hill, who attended the breakfast.

Scott Burrows with the St. Regis American Legion Post also addressed the students and gave them advice to never give up no matter what difficulties they may face. His address honored veteran Fred Gillott, a former St. Regis school board member whose motto was “never give up.”
