Anything-and-0 is always a good thing

For the first time all season, yours truly had a perfect week with the picks.
As did my indispensable sidekick, Jason Elliott, for a second time.
(The fact we only had four games to pick ... is irrelevant!)
In any event, we both picked Coeur d’Alene to beat Mountain View, as well as Washington State, Boise State and Eastern Washington to win in the college ranks.
The up-to-date tallies — yours truly is 74-35 on the season, Jason 68-37.
There are four more games on the slate this week, including Coeur d’Alene in the state title game, and Idaho and Eastern trying to keep their postseason hopes alive.
HIGH SCHOOL
State 5A championship
Coeur d’Alene (9-2) vs. Highland (9-1)
Friday, 4:30 p.m.
NELKE: This shapes up as a tough game for the Vikings because (1) the opponent is Highland; and (2) the opponent is Highland playing on its home turf at Holt Arena in Pocatello. That said, unless they are inflicted with turnover-itis, the Viks have way too much firepower to be denied.
And Coeur d’Alene’s underrated defense is pretty good, too. Perhaps it should be underrated no longer.
Coeur d’Alene, 39-22
ELLIOTT: If you’re heading to Pocatello this weekend, make sure you buy your popcorn early and stay in your seat, because these two teams are going to put on a show. A few years ago, Coeur d’Alene had to make a drive late in the game to win it in the final moments at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.
Coeur d’Alene, 28-24
COLLEGE
Coastal Carolina (1-9) at Idaho (3-6)
Saturday, 2 p.m.
NELKE: Even if Mason Petrino has to start at quarterback in place of the injured Matt Linehan (thumb), the Vandals should be in pretty good shape against a Chanticleers team that has lost nine straight. Idaho had 16 days to prepare for this, and still has the carrot of bowl eligibility dangling if it can win its last three games. Coastal Carolina only lost by one to Arkansas, which might tell you more about the Razorbacks this season.
Idaho, 24-13
ELLIOTT: Could come down to Lakeland product Cade Coffey’s foot if Linehan isn’t able to play. If he does, or doesn’t ...
Idaho, 18-14
Air Force (4-6) at Boise State (8-2)
Saturday, 7:15 p.m.
NELKE: Bronco fans are no doubt still reveling in last week’s “miracle” comeback win at Colorado State. However, if the Mountain West is still Boise State’s conference, as their fans claim, they shouldn’t have fallen so far behind where a “miracle” was needed. That said, the MW is, indeed, still Boise’s league, and the Broncos should avenge a loss last year to the Falcons.
BSU, 31-14
ELLIOTT: Boise State is still playing for a chance to lock down a berth in the conference title game. In a deadline photo finish ...
Boise State, 38-20
Portland State (0-10) at Eastern Washington (6-4)
Saturday, 3 p.m.
NELKE: The Eags need a win and some help to make the FCS playoffs. The Vikings ... just need some help.
EWU, 56-5
ELLIOTT: Who’s playing quarterback for Eastern this week? It really doesn’t matter.
EWU, 56-10
