The Plains Woman’s Club has been creating hand-made Christmas stockings for families that are associated with the Sanders County Coalition for Families for nearly a decade.

The local ladies come together at the Methodist Church in Plains each year and construct stockings to fill with Christmas delights.

This year they are making around 60 stockings to donate to the organization.

“All the ladies love getting together and putting the stockings together for families in need. It is certainly something we look forward to as a group each year,” said club president Glenda Wolverton.

Each year on a Friday in November, the group has a small meeting before pulling out the sewing machines, fabrics and decorative ribbons to begin a couple of hours worth of laughs as they get sewing.

All ladies volunteer their time to come down to the church and begin the holiday season with good old-fashioned Christmas spirit.

This year there was around 12 ladies who sorted themselves in work stations as they cut patterns and started the machines to put them all together.

“Some of the ladies have already constructed stockings at home, but it’s getting together as a group to create some wonderful keepsakes for families in need around the Christmas holiday that really has become an enjoyable event for everyone,” said Wolverton.

All the stockings will be donated to the SCCFF so they can be filled with Santa’s gifts to be opened on Christmas morning. With local businesses banding together to fill the oversized Christmas themed stockings, there will certainly be some Christmas cheer spread to those in need this coming holiday season.
