BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry High School FFA hosted their 69th Annual FFA Harvest Auction on Nov. 11. They had both silent and live auctions, making it the largest fundraiser of the year for the Boundary County FFA.

Residents and businesses of Boundary County came together and donated various items from care baskets and gift certificates, to food items and tools.

With Boundary County being an agriculturally rich area, the residents have had many years of supporting and educating the community. Every year, the FFA members visit local businesses and supporters for donations for the Harvest Auction. Not only do community members and businesses donate, but they attend and participate in the fundraiser.

This year, the FFA members raised about $9,000 in which the proceeds will go toward member scholarships, travel, and lodging to attend District, State and National Leadership Conferences as well as participate in their choice of 24 different Career Development Events.

“The Bonners Ferry FFA Chapter has had much successes in recent years winning National Awards as well as having members who hold District Leadership Offices,” said Julie Smith. “Many find their passion in agriculture and continue their education to pursue a career in the agriculture field.”

The FFA members plan to use some of the proceeds to purchase supplies for the planned greenhouse, which will enable the students to research, experiment, and receive hands on learning through the spring.

“Without the support of our amazing community students would not have as many opportunities to grow, learn, and become future leaders,” said Smith. “We wish to thank all the businesses who donated to the auction as well as those who came and purchased items that were auctioned off. We appreciate our community and the support they give agriculture education.”
