BONNERS FERRY — The Boundary County Democrats came together with the residents of Boundary County, of all party affiliations, at Debbie Flory’s home on Nov. 7, to raise money to help Puerto Rico. During the evening, hors d’oeuvres and refreshments were served while the attendees followed the city council race.

There were more than 30 people from all over the county who attended and raised more than $400 for the Puerto Rico Benefit through World Central Kitchen (WCK).

The WCK organization began in 2010 after Haiti had a devastating earthquake, and has since expanded their efforts across the world. Their goal is to teach communities about food safety and safe food handling, cooking classes, and food ventures which not only educate, but help the community with providing jobs and incomes.

They have been providing the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico with prepared meals across the island with help from local businesses and more than 500 volunteers.

“Through our extensive network of local volunteers, restaurants, and businesses, our chefs, led by José Andrés, have prepared over 2.3 million meals to date,” stated the WCK website.

“This is our second event of the year. The First was a Corn Hole tournament and cake walk held last spring. The next event will be our annual Cabin Fever in February,” said Debbie Florey. “The Democrats are focusing on bringing people in our county together, regardless of party affiliation, bringing awareness to important issues, and most importantly, having fun.”
