MOSES LAKE — If you venture down North Stratford Road in Moses Lake Thursday night or Friday morning you very well might see a number of cardboard boxes set up along the road and several people using the boxes as makeshift shelters for the night. The boxes are a part of the Homeless Task Force of Grant County’s third annual Sleep on the Street event, which aims to raise awareness about homelessness and raise funds for the Warming Center in Moses Lake.
So far Moses Lake Police Department Chief Kevin Fuhr, Moses Lake School District Director of Student Services Dave Balcom, Moses Lake Fire Department Chief Brett Bastian, Windermere K-2 Realty LLC owner Barry Lawson, Windermere broker Kandi Bersanti, Moses Lake City Council member Don Myers and Pack’s Taxi and Delivery owner Nathan Pack have pledged to spend the night in the box.
The event will be held in the parking lot of Penhallurick's True Value, 711 N. Stratford Rd. Volunteers will be accepting monetary donations and winter wear, such as men’s and women’s coats, boots, gloves, hats and socks. Organizers say they cannot accept blankets and/or clothing. All monetary donations will go directly to help run the Warming Center in Moses Lake.
