ANNIVERSARIES
George and Audrey Thayer
75th Anniversary
George and Audrey Thayer, of Rathdrum, are celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary on Sept. 26, 2017. They were married in the one-and-only Hitching Post in Coeur d’Alene in 1942. George and Audrey are longtime Rathdrum Prairie farmers and land developers. They have seven grandchildren and literally dozens of great-grandchildren, as well as great-great-grandchildren.
Donald and Lynn Knapp
50th Anniversary
Donald and Lynn (Evelyn) B. McNeill Knapp, of Coeur d’Alene, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They are the owners of The Hitching Post Wedding Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.
Their children are Kip and Michelle Knapp, and Keith and Karin Knapp, all of Spokane Valley. They have 10 grandchildren.
A celebration party was held on Sept. 17, 2017, at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds at the No. 10 barn with wagon rides, food, music and entertainment. Family and friends of more than 71 years attended coming from China, New York, Alabama, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. It was a fun-filled day as they celebrated 50 years of memories.
Food was catered by Classic Catering and wagon rides by Linda Rider of the Rider Ranch. Inspiration came from “Bride’s” grandparents 50th wedding anniversary party where they had a country gathering with wagon rides.
Don and Lynn met in Los Angeles, Calif., in Bible college. Married in Southern California in 1967. Served in several churches before purchasing The Hitching Post in 1989 and that is where they now serve marrying couples from all over the United States and beyond. They are grateful to God after prayers for a smokeless day from all the fires, and a bit cooler after all the hot weather. Thankful to their children and friends who helped in the planning, decorating, serving and general all-around involvement. And now the adventure continues on to 60 years.
Mitchell and Catherine Symons
40th Anniversary
Mitchell Symons and Catherine (Neal) Symons have officially made it to 40 years! They were married Oct. 1, 1977, in Elko, Nev., and have been in wedded bliss (mostly) ever since.
After marrying, they moved back to the hometown of the groom, Post Falls, to make a life together. They quickly bought a home and started a family. These two could not keep their hands off one another as they welcomed a daughter and two sons within a four-year span.
Mitch has worked as a welder at Spokane Industries for 39 years, and Cate has worked at the Post Falls Public Library for 29 years.
Mitch and Cate have three children: Angela (Phillip) Carlson of Hauser, Michael (Emily) Symons of Alexandria, Va., and Steven (Kelsey) Symons of North Bend, Wash.
Mitch and Cate love spending time with their grandchildren: Leo, Odin and Charlie. They also love spending time outdoors and traveling.
They will be celebrating their 40th anniversary by venturing to the Grand Canyon later this year.
