MERIDIAN — Lake City fought through three pool play matches, then three more in bracket play, beating Timberline High of Boise 29-27, 28-30, 15-12 to win the Rocky Mountain High tournament on Saturday afternoon.
“It was a fun match to watch,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said of the title match. “It was unreal and had a lot of back-and-forth action. We learned a lot about our team coming down here.”
In pool play, Lake City beat Centennial 21-14, 21-14, split with Rocky Mountain 19-21, 21-18 and swept Boise 21-14, 21-18 to advance to the gold bracket. In bracket play, Lake City swept Highland 25-15, 25-15 and Boise 25-12, 25-15 to reach the title match.
“Once we got into bracket play, the girls really put the pedal to the metal,” Summers said. “It was just fun to watch the girls battle all day and have the determination to finish what they came down here to do. I’m glad we made the trip down to see the teams we might see again at the state tournament.”
