SANDPOINT — Rickie Colosimo scored on an assist from Madi Lasher in the 81st minute, but a hat trick by Riley Walkington lifted the Bulldogs past the Trojans at Pine St. Field.
“The girls came out a little flat and seemed content to sit back in our defensive third for most of the half,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said. “We also, unfortunately, gave up another penalty kick and failed to score on our PK chance. In the second half, we made some adjustments and the girls played much better. If we can get the same performance on Saturday as we had in the second half, I like our chances.”
Post Falls (3-7-3) opens the 5A Region 1 tournament Saturday at the second seed, either Lake City or Coeur d’Alene.

LEWISTON — The Timberwolves bunched up the 5A Inland Empire League race even more, beating the Bengals at Walker Field.
Lake City (5-2-2, 3-1-1 5A IEL) can win the league title with a win against visiting Coeur d’Alene (8-2-1, 3-1-1) on Thursday. If Coeur d’Alene wins, the Vikings would be the league champion with the Timberwolves traveling to Post Falls (7-3, 4-2) on Saturday to open 5A Region 1 tournament play.
If Coeur d’Alene and Lake City tie, then Post Falls is the league champion.
“We have been defending well most of the year and our goal was to keep a clean sheet,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “Our back four midfielders stepped up and filled in the spaces minimizing the attack on our goal. I’m proud of the way they closed out the game.”
Lewiston (3-10-1, 0-6) travels to the league champion to open regional play.

POST FALLS — In the end, it was a look in the first half that proved to be the difference between the Trojans and Bulldogs at Post Falls High.
Diego Esquivel converted on a penalty kick in the 20th minute to send Post Falls past Sandpoint in a nonleague match.
“They had a couple of good looks and we had a few more than they did,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “It was tight the entire game and both defenses were really good. Sandpoint played solid in both halves and so did we, and were fortunate to come out with a win today. They’re by far the best team we’ve played up here this season. It was a good test for us to see where we’re at this season and where we need to go to keep the ball rolling.”
Post Falls (8-3) will compete in the 5A Region 1 tournament on Saturday with seeding yet to be determined.
Sandpoint (11-1-1) travels to Moscow on Thursday.
