Classical guitarist to perform at JACC
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 7 years, 7 months AGO
Internationally renowned classical guitarist Paul Galbraith will perform a concert Nov. 3 in Post Falls.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, 405 N. Williams St.
“Galbraith has been working since the 1980s toward expanding the technical limits of his instrument, besides augmenting the quantity and quality of its repertoire,” said a news release. “These efforts have already resulted in a series of critically acclaimed recordings of works by Bach, Haydn and Brahms, along with his own arrangements of folk tunes from various countries, all of which demonstrate the originality of his musical personality.
“By exchanging the traditional guitar for the eight-string Brahms Guitar, which he helped to develop, Galbraith found the ideal instrument with which to interpret the challenging classical transcriptions from his highly personal repertoire.”
The performance kicks off this seaons’s Guitar Hour Concert Series, an off-shoot of the Friends of the Guitar Hour radio show. Hosted by Leon Atkinson, the Guitar Hour has been a local radio show supporting the guitar community of the inland northwest for over 25 years.
Additional concerts include a Feb. 16, 2018 concert by Paul Grove at Holy Names Music Center in Spokane; a March 23 concert by Elizabeth Brown, also at Holy Names Music Center; and a final concert by David Tanenbaum on May 11 in Post Falls at the JACC.
Season passes are $100 until Oct. 20 and $120 after. Advance single tickets are $30 and $35 at the door.
