Grove, Hatley third

at PNW pro-am event

PULLMAN — PGA professional Jeff Gove partnered with amateur Darren Slackman of The Creek at Qualchan (Spokane) to win the Pacific Northwest Pro-Amateur Championship at Palouse Ridge Golf Course on Thursday by two strokes after firing four-ball scores of 61-61—122, 22 under par.

They won by two strokes over 2011 champions Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley and amateur Todd Densley.

Russell Grove, men’s and women’s golf coach at North Idaho College, and amateur Reid Hadley finished third at 62-62—126, 18 under par.

Billy Bomar of Prairie Falls and amateur Mike Kerns of Meridian Valley tied for ninth after shooting 65-65—130, 14 under par.

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department is currently taking team registrations for the men’s basketball league that begins Nov. 12.

Games are mainly played on Sundays, with a few Monday or Wednesday games. Team entry fee is $565 for a 10-game schedule.

Entry deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 17.

NIC men second, women

fourth at golf tourney

BREMERTON, Wash. — Brady Nelson finished third, Ben Harvey fifth as the North Idaho College men took second at a Northwest Athletic Conference tournament hosted earlier this week by Olympic College.

Nelson shot 75-71—146 in the two-day tourney, three strokes back of the winner. Harvey shot 73-76—149. Sean Langham (75-75—150) tied for sixth, Jesse Henderson (77-76—153) was 11th, Todd Henderson (82-76—158) tied for 17th and Chase Bomar (89-82—171).

NIC shot 598, sixth strokes back of champion Southwestern Oregon.

In the women’s tourney, Madi Brown of NIC shot 83-86—169 and finished fourth. Mikal Jerman (85-92—177) tied for 11th, Aly Mabey (85-93—178) was 13th and Mckenna Tinseth (92-91—183) tied for 20th.

NIC finished fourth with a 522. Spokane beat Columbia Basin in a tiebreaker for the title, after the teams tied for first at 515.
