Royal dismantles Wahluke Warriors on the gridiron

ROYAL CITY — The Knights Sawyers Jenks tossed five first half TD passes and Royal blew past the Wahluke Warriors 65-0 in a 1A SCAC East Conference matchup at home Friday. It was the fifth win in a row this season for the Knights who extended the States longest win streak to 32 games.
“The defense really set the tone for us — didn’t give up a first down until the second half and held Wahluke to minus yards in the first half,” coach Riley Allred said. “I’m really proud of those guys — they gave the offense the ball quite a bit in good field position.”
Royal’s offense took only a matter of seconds to put points on the board in the opening quarter as Jenks connected up with Corbin Christensen for a 29 yard score on the Knights first play of the game. Two Lorenzo Myrick touchdowns sandwiched between another hookup from Jenks to Christensen made it 28-0 at the end of the first 12 minutes of the game.
The Knights continue to roll adding second quarter TD runs by Yovani Cruz and Logan Gomez and receiving touchdowns from Angel Farias and Christensen to take a 56-0 lead into the locker room at the half.
“Angel had a big night with 98 receiving yards and a score,” Allred said. “He actually scored twice but the second TD was called back.”
Royal eased off the pedal in the second half with just two scores; a 6-yard hookup from Tyler Allred to Cruz in the third quarter, and a 8-yard fourth quarter run by Jack Diaz.
Jenks has now thrown for 20 touchdowns in five games. The Knights defense has given up a paltry three points this season.
“Our defensive line — Manny Alvarez, Logan Gomez, Raynor Beierle and Rams Gonzalez has really dominated up front,” Allred said. “Alonso Hernandez continues to play outstanding football at middle linebacker despite playing on an injured foot.”
Royal is back in action Friday when the Knights hit the road to Kiona-Benton for a matchup with the Bears.
“Ki-Be has really good athletes — have good running backs and receivers,” Allred said. ‘We’re going to have to play disciplined ball and get out to an early lead in this one.”

Wahluke holds off Royal on Knights home turf
