POST FALLS — Sophomore Ethan Lawson scored a hat trick to lead the Post Falls Trojans to a 6-1 victory over the Lewiston Bengals on Saturday in the first round of the 5A Region 1 boys soccer tournament.

“Ethan had himself quite a day,” said Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson, Ethan’s dad. “It was a result of moving the ball around Diego (Esquivel). We’ve been trying to focus on not making Diego a focal point of the offense. Ethan and Diego are cousins, and really are working well together. They’ve been on the cusp of breaking through all season and working on some quick combos, and Nick (Morris) was a big piece of that today. We’ve just been putting it together, and we shut the door early on them today. It was a good start and we wanted to make a statement, and make it early.”

Morris had a goal and two assists for Post Falls (9-3), which hosts Coeur d’Alene in the regional championship on Wednesday.

Coeur d’Alene (9-2-2) won 2-0 at Lake City (5-3-3) on Saturday.
