The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is investigating an anonymous threat made against a Lake City High School student.
On Sunday night at 10:45, police were notified about threats made to shoot a female student at school Monday. The student received the threat via social media after refusing to send a nude photograph to the anonymous suspect, according to investigators. The suspect deliberately chose social media apps that would hide his/her identity.
In a statement released Monday night, the police said no information suggesting the threat was credible had been found, and they were working with social media companies to identify and locate the person responsible.
Student safety is the top priority, and threats are always treated seriously and fully investigated, said a news release from the school district. Administrators with Coeur d’Alene Public Schools and Lake City High School have been notified and are working in conjunction with law enforcement. Throughout the day additional police officers were placed at area schools, including Lake City High School, looking for any suspicious activity.
“We will remain visible and diligent all day,” Lake City High Principal Deanne Clifford said early Monday. “Our No. 1 priority is the safety of our students.”
Clifford is available all day to meet with any parent who has concerns, the school district said.
School district administrators said, in a news release, that they students who engage in such behavior face disciplinary action, up to expulsion, and also could be charged with a crime.
This is an active investigation. Anyone, including students, with information related to this incident should contact the Coeur d’Alene Police Department immediately at 208-769-2320. Callers can remain anonymous.
