The Mineral County Help Line held their annual craft show on Saturday, Oct. 7, in the 4-H building in Superior. The Help Line is a 24 hour crisis line with an emphasis on women who are victims of domestic and sexual violence.

The group provides a number of services including emergency housing, support, peer counseling, advocacy, education and referrals. There were about a dozen tables set up for the event with refreshments.

Sally Miller with Help Line said they had a pretty good turnout with people walking through the door. The craft show was held on both Saturday and Sunday and tables were $20 each with funds raised used for the Help Line.

“We also get a state grant, which has been very good to us,” said Miller. With funds raised they are able to help people with expenses that may not be available through traditional programs. For example if a woman needs a bus ticket to travel to safety from an abusive situation, their group is able to provide it.

Some other nonprofits were also at the show, including the Mineral County We Care Foundation, a group that assists families and individuals who do not have personal resources. For example if they need home or vehicle repairs, help with utilities or rent, food or other personal needs. On average the Foundation pays out between $5,000-$6,000 annually with the majority of expenses going toward help with housing and utilities.
