Loretta Reed, 71

Loretta Reed entered the gates of heaven on Oct. 9, 2017, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House, following a courageous, 14-year battle with cancer. Loretta was born Sept. 27, 1946, to Edward and Bernice Dymek in Philadelphia, Pa.

She grew up in Philadelphia in the ’50s and graduated from St. Hubert’s High School. Shortly thereafter, she met her husband, of 50 years, Gene Reed. They were married July 8, 1967, in Philadelphia and took off with all their belongings, in the back of their car, for sunny California. Loretta continued her education in various colleges across Southern California. While Gene served four tours in Vietnam, Loretta held down the home front. She worked for the Navy in the San Diego recruitment center. They welcomed their only child, daughter Jolee while there.

The Reed family moved to Post Falls in 1989. Loretta embraced her community and church. She was a tireless volunteer for the Post Falls Education Foundation and Post Falls Rotary. Loretta was a dedicated member of St. George’s Catholic Church.

Loretta joined the Windermere/CDA Realty family in 1991, where she built a successful real estate career for more than 26 years. She was also president of the Windermere Foundation and the success of her beloved “Boots and Socks” program was because of her dedication and love for her community.

Loretta is survived by her husband, Gene at home; daughter Jolee Reed and son-in-law Ross Niblock; her grandchildren, Reed and Greer, all of Boston, Mass.; her mother, Bernice Dymek; sister Irene Lund and brother Edward Dymek; and many loving nieces and nephews. Loretta was preceded in death by her father, Edward.

Loretta will be remembered for her strength and determination fighting breast cancer, and her love and compassion for family, friends and community. You are missed “LR.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Windermere Foundation “Boots and Socks,” Post Falls Education Foundation, Mission of Charities at St. George’s, Post Falls Rotary or the Schneidmiller Hospice House.

English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Her services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct, 13, 2017, at the St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene.
