Elmer O. ‘Bud’ Mundt, 88

Elmer O. Mundt, 88, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017. Elmer was born April 16, 1929, in Rosalia, Wash., to Emma and Fred Mundt. He was raised on a farm in the Rock Creek Valley in Benewah County. He graduated from Fairfield High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Elmer married Evelyn “Jodi” in 1953. Five years later, they purchased the farm in Coeur d’Alene. There they raised their children: Michael, Larry, Teri and LoriAnne. In 1962, Elmer earned the Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year award from the Chamber of Commerce and, in 1963, he was selected Grass Man and Conservation Farmer of the Year, in a statewide process, by the Jaycees.

Elmer never stopped being interested in his neighborhood and was very community minded. He truly cared about people. Through the years, Elmer’s interest and influence on children was evident. He was a 4-H leader for more than 20 years and he was president of the PTA at Sherman School. He also served on the board of Children’s Village at its inception and for 12 years. Elmer served on the board of directors of Kootenai Electric for 21 years. He also served 20 years on the county noxious weed board. And he was a board member for Farm Bureau insurance for many years.

Elmer was a lifelong Lutheran and was very active with his church family. He volunteered many hours at Camp Lutherhaven in its early years and was an active store tender during Cast-Away-Fair. Elmer loved family time, sharing trips and exploring new places. He loved to camp and fish.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jodi; sons Michael (Janet Jeffries) and Larry (Sherry Ratliff); daughters Teri (Steve) Heinrich and LoriAnne (Wallace) Peterson; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., Coeur d’Alene, with a reception following.
