Cardinal men win wild one

COEUR d’ALENE — It was a solid first half for the North Idaho College men’s soccer team, building a 2-0 lead.

Then it got a little hairy in the second half.

Cade Roske, Conner Kinnune and Parker Gorrill had a goal and assist each for the Cardinals in a 5-3 win over the Wenatchee Valley Knights in Northwest Athletic Conference play at Eisenwinter Field on Wednesday.

“It was a full game of attacking soccer,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “We created our best chances in the first 20 minutes. In the second half, things got a little wilder. We had a couple of fouls in the first 10 minutes, a coach was ejected. It was a really entertaining game.”

NIC (5-6-2, 4-3-2 NWAC) trails Walla Walla by one point for the third and final playoff spot in the East Region with three matches remaining.

Wenatchee Valley is 3-7-1, 2-6-1.

NIC hosts Columbia Basin College next Wednesday at Eisenwinter Field.

MOSES LAKE, Wash. — Sandpoint product Kayla Neumann had 15 kills and eight digs and Hailee Etter had 13 kills and two block assists for the Cardinals in a 25-11, 25-12, 23-25, 25-12 win over the Vikings in Northwest Athletic Conference play at the DeVries Activity Center.

Halle Hess had 11 kills and seven digs, Rachel Leshikar 17 digs, Haylee Templeton 46 assists and seven digs for NIC (19-5, 9-0 NWAC), which travels to face Blue Mountain in Pendleton, Ore., on Friday, then wraps up the weekend at Yakima Valley on Saturday.

Big Bend is 0-21, 0-10.

COEUR d’ALENE — Linnea Pretzer scored a pair of second half goals to put the match away as the Cardinals beat the Knights in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field.

NIC (10-4, 8-2 NWAC) travels to Yakima Valley on Saturday.

Wenatchee Valley is 4-8-2, 2-7-1.
