Teens injured in collision near Mattawa

MATTAWA — Two teenagers from Lind were injured in a collision involving two semi-trucks on Wednesday near Mattawa.

About 1:30 p.m. a 16-year-old girl from Lind was driving a 2001 Hyundai Sonata west on state Route 24, about 13 miles south of Mattawa, when she reportedly turned left to continue on SR-24. She struck a 2001 International 9400 semi-truck driven by Israel Sanchez, 29, of Kennewick. The International semi-truck then reportedly struck a 2011 Kenworth construction semi-truck driven by Rigoberto Garcia, 49, of Toppenish, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The girl from Lind and her passenger, a 15-year-old girl from Lind, were injured in the collision and transported to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland for treatment. The patrol reports the 16-year-old driver of the Sonata was cited for failure-to-yield the right of way.
