YAKIMA — Isaiah Perez and Trevor Hilmes ran for three scores each and Othello singed the East Valley Red Devils 47-21 on the road Friday. It was the third North Conference win in a row for the Huskies (4-2, 3-0) who open up a one game lead over Ephrata in the league standings.
Perez got things rolling for Othello hitting pay dirt twice on two short runs to put the Huskies out front 14-0. East Valley’s quarterback Alex Hampton scored the first of two touchdowns on a 29-yard run (kick failed) to close the gap to 14-6 and round out first quarter action.
Othello posted 13 second quarter points on two Himes TDs to take a 27-6 lead into the locker room at the half.
Kyler Villarreal’s 22-yard scamper opened up third quarter scoring. The Red Devils answered back with Hampton’s 15-yard dash into the end zone and a 2-point conversion pass from Hampton to Chase Oldham. Hilmes capped off the third quarter with a 65-yard run and the Huskies led 40-14 heading into the game’s final 12 minutes.
East Valley inched a bit closer on a Derek North 3-yard run. Othello responded with Perezes third score, this one from 1-yard out.
The Huskies ground chuck attack produced 330 yards, led by Hilmes who toted the rock 21 times for 248. Perez finished with 82 yards on 17 carries. Villarreal completed 15 passes for 109 yards. Isaac Barragan was his top target with seven catches for 49 receiving yards.
The Huskies are back on the gridiron Friday night in Othello for a CWAC showdown with the Ellensburg Bulldogs who are surprisingly winless (0-6,0-2) on the season. The game gets underway at 7 p.m.
