Oct. 17, 1967 — SOUZA ENTERS U. OF R.

Kip A. Souza, Route 1, Sandpoint, a 1967graduate of Sandpoint Senior High, is a member of the entering freshman class at the University of Rochester, N.Y. Souza was winner of a four-year scholarship to the New York school.

NURSES’ ASSN. TO MEET

District No. 10 of the Idaho State Nurses’ Assn. will meet Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Lillian Scott, 501 Euclid Ave. Election of officers will be held. All registered nurses are invited to attend.

TV STORE OPEN HOUSE FRIDAY

John Nelson, 415 S. Florence, who recently purchased Browns TV Sales and Service, 225 Cedar, from Dell Brown, plans an open house under a new name, Nelson TV and Appliance.

Nelson, raised in Priest River and a member of the Priest River High School class of 1947, came to Sandpoint last year from Anderson, Ind. He serves as pastor of First church of God. Assisting Nelson in the business is Les Wagner.

NAVIGATIONAL LIGHTS INSTALLED

Installation of navigational signal lights on Lake Pend Oreille is nearly complete, Sheriff Butigan announced this week. The aids for boaters are being installed and maintained by the Coast Guard and Navy. With the new lights on the lake the sheriff’s department has received numerous calls from persons who have mistaken one of the signal lights for a boat in distress, the sheriff said.

COUNCIL ARRANGES LIBERTY DAY

At last night’s city council meeting, it was decided to lend every assistance to the committee working in behalf of the second liberty loan. The council went on record as favoring the proposition of having the stores in the city close at noon on Wednesday, October 24. After dinner a big parade is planned in which every auto owner in the county is invited to be present. The request for closing the stores is made for the purpose of allowing every citizen the privilege of subscribing to the second issue of liberty bonds.

COMPANY H LEFT CITY THIS MORNING

Sandpoint is without soldiers. Members of Company H who were stationed here for several months left today for an unknown destination, presumably Camp Green, No. Carolina.

Marking the occasion of their departure, the city schools were dismissed at 10:15 so pupils could bid the boys in uniform a last farewell.

The officers and men in the company made many friends during their stay here even though they were not from this locality. As the train pulled away, cheer after cheer rose from the platform wishing the boys health and God speed.
