PF police officer charged with battery resigns

POST FALLS — A Post Falls police officer arrested last month on a felony domestic battery charge has resigned.

"Aaron Ogle is no longer employed by the Post Falls Police Department," Chief Scot Haug said Tuesday.

Ogle, 38, a senior patrol officer who worked for the department for nearly nine years, had been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the city and a criminal probe by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.

Haug said the internal investigation has been completed, while the KCSO case is pending.

He declined to comment further, citing personnel reasons and state law.

"With criminal charges pending, I do not believe it would be appropriate for me to comment," he said.

Ogle faces a felony domestic battery charge along with misdemeanors for injury to a child and malicious injury to property. His preliminary hearing is slated for Oct. 31.

Ogle was arrested by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office following an interview with detectives at Post Falls City Hall on Sept. 6. He posted $15,000 bond and was released from the Kootenai County Jail the next day after his first appearance.

Ogle is accused of striking his wife's arm on May 17, causing it to bruise.

"This is something the Post Falls Police Department takes very seriously," Haug said earlier. "We obviously have no tolerance for domestic violence."

When PFPD was informed of the complaint, the case was turned over to the KCSO for investigation, which is standard procedure since it involves a police department employee.

The two investigations on Ogle are independent of each other.

According to court records, Ogle's wife filed for divorce last month, the day before her husband was arrested. They have three children who are minors, according to the KCSO report.

The KCSO declined to comment further on the case, citing its pending investigation.

Ogle represented PFPD at community events with his police motorcycle.
