BONNERS FERRY — On the brisk night of Oct. 10, the Badgers volleyball team kept the gym at the Bonners Ferry High School on fire with their enthusiasm and drive.
The game marked Senior Night and all the girls on the team were recognized, with the senior girls taking the first laps around the arena high-fiving the coaches and referees as it would be one of the last high school league games these girls would play.
With applause and support from the attending crowd, the girls spiked off the game with high spirits and determination.
Miranda Wenk finished the game with two blocks and 11 kills, Jerzie Pluid accomplished two blocks and 14 kills, and Kadi Bateman rounded off the evening with 16 assists. Hannah Olsen was on fire, getting an ace and 11 assists, with Jayden Bennett working for 11 digs, and Micah Whittaker finishing off with 14 digs.
Falling shy of a win against Timberlake, the girls needed one more victory to earn the Intermountain League title. Their last league game was at Kellogg on Oct. 12, and the Badgers swept the Wildcats in three games, giving them first place in the IML and allowing BFHS to host this week’s district tournament.
The Badgers began the 3A district by sweeping Kellogg on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
BFHS hosts Timberlake tonight at 7 for the district title. The winner of tonight’s match advances to the 3A state tournament, beginning Friday, Oct. 27, in the Coeur d’Alene area.
