BONNERS FERRY — Kenzie Dean had seven kills and 15 digs, but the two-time defending district champion Timberlake Tigers came up short Thursday night, falling to the top-seeded Bonners Ferry Badgers 25-19, 25-19, 25-12 in the championship match of the 3A District 1 tournament.

Bonners Ferry (12-3), which won its first district title since 2014, advances to state next Friday and Saturday at a site to be determined — at either Coeur d’Alene, Lake City or Post Falls high school.

Second-seeded Timberlake (15-18) will play host to fourth-seeded Kellogg tonight at 6 for the district’s second berth to state. Kellogg eliminated third-seeded Priest River (6-11) on Thursday.

McKeeley Tonkin had 16 assists for Timberlake, and Caitlin Garwood had six kills and one block.

Coeur d’Alene

POST FALLS — Kayla Mayo had 19 assists, Courtney Finney 13 as the third-seeded Trojans swept the fourth-seeded Vikings 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 in a loser-out, second-place match in the 5A Region 1 tournament at The Arena.

Allison Munday had 15 kills for Post Falls (25-12), which plays Kuna in a state play-in match Saturday at 3 p.m. in Grangeville. Macky Morris had 12 digs, Ali Carpenter three aces, Sydney Parks two blocks.

“We played with a lot of energy and determination tonight,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “Our setters, Kayla Mayo and Courtney Finney, not only put the ball where it needed to be all night they dug nearly everything hit their way. I am looking forward to see what we can do against Kuna on Saturday.”

Emily Kladar had 11 kills for Coeur d’Alene (16-13). Sam Swayze had seven digs and three aces, Lauren Phillips six assists, Delaney Schmidt five kills.

“When you have a great group of girls who work well together and continue to improve you hate to see your season end,” Coeur d’Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. “We gave good effort tonight, but Post Falls played really well. Their experience showed and it was pretty lopsided in terms of them being able to stay in system and us struggling with ball control. Our league is tough and both Post Falls and Lake City should represent well the rest of postseason.”

MOSCOW — The host Bears won their second regional title in three years, outlasting the second-seeded Bulldogs 25-22, 19-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-7 in the championship match of the 4A Region 1 tournament at Bear Den.

Moscow advances to state next Friday and Saturday, at either Coeur d’Alene, Lake City or Post Falls high school.

Grace Hicks had 14 kills, 23 assists, 20 digs and five blocks for Sandpoint, which finished 13-18.
