Name: Kayleen Walker

Age: 47

Length of residency: 15 years

Family: Married, three children, one daughter-in-law and one son-in-law

Highest level of education completed: Some college

Previous political experience: Planning and Zoning Commission, Harrison City Council

What prompted you to seek election to this position?

My city council term is finishing and our current mayor, along with my family and friends, encouraged me to run for mayor. I have served on the Public Works Committee for three years and currently serve on the Administration Committee dealing with our budget. I am up-to-date on current city projects and understand our city code. I feel like I am fully prepared to take on a new role with the city and the transition to mayor from council would go smoothly. I look forward to being able to provide council with more complete information and assisting the public on a more consistent basis.

What are three things you will work to change or improve if elected?

Availability. Open city hall more than 24 hours per week. Work to improve and promote the city. Consistently meet with the chamber, law enforcement, the school, patrons, visitors and businesses to address their concerns and suggestions; attend community events and encourage citizen input at meetings.

Accountability. The city has very few additional water and sewer hookups. We need to be very careful with future development and plan accordingly. Staying accountable to our residents; staying on budget and assuring responsible growth is the utmost importance.

Implementing City Code. City laws need to be enforced equally. Everyone needs to be held to the same standards and procedures. So many issues would be resolved if the city applied these codes equally and fairly.

What makes you the best candidate?

I hope voters already know that I am honest and I have integrity. I live downtown Harrison and I have no personal hidden agenda. I completely understand the garbage, parking and noise issues we have in the summer. I understand the delicate balance needed to sustain the commercial businesses and that we need to work together. I want Harrison to prosper and succeed on all levels. As mayor I would initiate changes that would result in our wonderful city getting back to admirable values and treating your neighbor with respect.
