Royal remains unbeaten with lopsided win over Columbia-Burbank

BURBANK — The Knights posted six rushing touchdowns, three passing strikes and a pick-6 to roll past the Coyotes 67-7 on the road Friday.
Royal actually got off on the wrong foot to open the ball game, but made some adjustments to run away with it.
“It was really windy and our first play, a ball from Sawyer sailed over our receiver and they intercepted it,” coach Wiley Allred said. “The second time we got it, we fumbled the ball, so we kind of got off to a slow start offensively.”
After they got things turned in the right direction, the team with the State’s longest win streak (35 games) scored at will.
Alonso Hernandez punched in the first of his three touchdowns on a 34-yard first quarter run (Hernandez PAT). A 16-yard hookup from Sawyer Jenks to Corbin Christensen (PAT) made it 14-0 at the end of the first 12 minutes of action.
Hernandez’s second TD run, a Lorenzo Myrick 14-yard scamper and a 14-yard strike from Jenks to CJ Quintero( failed 2-point conversion) pushed the Knights lead to 34-0.
Columbia-Burbank stopped the bleeding with a 1-yard TD run to round out first half scoring.
Royal opened up the third quarter on a 3-yard Hernandez run, followed by a second hookup from Jenks to Quintero; this one from 47-yards out, a pick-6 by Juan Ojeda and a second touchdown run by Myrick, and the route was on, 61-7.
The Knights added one score in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard Carter Dorsing run (kick failed).
Royal finished with 462 total yards of offense; 296 on the ground and 166 through the air. The Knights held the Coyotes to 116 total yards.
“Our ‘O’ line was dominant under tough conditions for both teams,” Allred said. “Our front three on the ‘D’ line Logan Gomez, Rams Gonzalez and Micah Albert were dominant as well. Alonso (Hernandez) led the team in tackles and had a sack. Isaac Ellis turned in solid game for us too.”
Royal hosts River View Friday at 7 p.m., and will then host LaSalle from the West Conference in a cross over game Nov. 10 in a loser out contest. If the Knights beat the Lightning, they will host the winner of the other crossover game. Those opponents have yet to be decided.
