NOTES: Post Falls won the Region 1 title on Oct. 19 at Farragut State Park in Athol, edging Coeur d’Alene by three points ... Sydney Shanahan won the girls race in 19 minutes, 25.5 seconds, with Coeur d’Alene’s Lauren Forster seven seconds back ... Coeur d’Alene girls were 11th at state last year, followed by Post Falls in 12th. “In a lot of ways, we’re really a similar team to last year,” Post Falls coach Brian Trefry said. “We’re a little more experienced this year, and I think last year, we were really excited to be at state after winning the regional title. This year, we’re thinking about what we’re going to do at state. Last year, it was a new experience and we felt good about it. This year, we want to make some noise.” ... Defending girls medalist Lexy Halladay of Mountain High in Meridian, who has excelled nationally in cross country as well as track and field, returns for her sophomore year. Last spring, she broke the national freshman record in the mile. “Mountain View, they’re going to be incredibly tough to beat with Lexy,” Trefry said. “There’s going to be some tremendous competiton with us down there. Both us and Coeur d’Alene can go down and make some noise, but it’s a high level of competition.” Coeur d’Alene’s boys were 10th at state last year ... Lewiston’s boys finished fifth.

NOTES: Lakeland junior Isabelle Kirk was fourth at the Region 1 meet, finishing in 21:20.6 at Farragut State Park on Oct. 19 ... Sandpoint swept the boys and girls team titles at regionals ... Skyline’s boys snapped Pocatello’s five-year streak of state team titles last year.

RETURNING INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS: none

LOCAL QUALIFIERS: Timberlake boys, Timberlake girls, Karson Chrispens, Coeur d’Alene Charter; Josie Yovichin, Coeur d’Alene Charter; Tess McPhilomy, Coeur d’Alene Charter.

NOTES: Abigail Peightal finished runner-up for Timberlake, which won a ninth straight girls district title. Timberlake won three straight state titles from 2009 to 2011, and finished third last year. Jordan Hardy was third at districts for the Timberlake boys, which finished fourth at state last year. “Both teams have set a goal to be on the podium,” Timberlake coach Shawn Lawler said. “I feel those are both attainable. Jordan and Noah Herbert have great chances to be in the top 20. Abigail, Savannah Caudle and Megan Hatrock have a great chance as well.” Lawler added that Sugar-Salem is favored to repeat with a boys title, and the Sugar-Salem girls are favored to win for the first time since 2013. Shelley’s girls have won three straight state titles.
